Summary
Admin users can now configure the filtering of drop-down field lists. This means that users will be displayed a list of drop-down values filtered on the value of another field. This feature enables system configurators the flexibility to provide users with relevant pick-list values based on previously defined field values improving user experience and data quality.
Example:
You could have two fields; one will filter the available values in another.
- Field 1 - 'Sport', selectable values.
- Filed 2 - 'Season', selectable values filtered by the Sport selected.
Note:
Any field that is a standard drop-down can be used as a filtering field including custom drop-down fields. Lookup fields do not support filtering. Such as Customer & Contact which are lookup fields.
Configuration
Configure the parent drop-down to filter the child drop-down by defining the data binding.
To configure data binding for a drop-down field, from the drop-down list of source values, click on the Action Menu, and select Configure Data Binding.
In this example, we shall filter Job Table 1 (of sports) values by Job Type (Sport), and Job Table 2 (sports seasons) filtered by Job Table 1.
Figure 1 - Select 'Configure Data Binding'
From the Drop-down Filters list add a row, and enter the source pick-list item value, and then select the drop-down field to be filtered.
Figure 2 - Enter filter details
Select a Job Type (source value) and add values to Job Table 1.
Now when you select Job Type: Sports, Job Table 1 will display a drop-down list of sports to select.
If you select Job Type: Promos, you will no longer see the list of sports to select from in Job Table 1.
To filter Job Table 2 by Job Table 1, add a data binding for Job Table 1 via the action menu ‘configure data binding’.
Adding a single row will apply to all new entries for other Job Table 1 selections. You can now add Job Table 2 picklist values for each sport and end up with filtered picklists.
The filtered pick lists:
As you create new list values for Job Table 2, they automatically get added to the bindings of Table 1.
